About to start year 12 and want to know how to prepare? Then this is the post for you! We've made a list of all the helpful ways to stay organised, stay on top of things, and how to make year 12 a breeze!

Creating A Study Plan

Know what you are working towards:

By this, I mean try to figure out what area of study you want to be in, what atar you need (if you need one), and what qualifications you'd like to get. Knowing all of this will help you decide what subjects to keep and what subjects to drop, as well as help you understand how you need to be performing throughout the year to be able to achieve this.

Make your study timetable skeleton:

Get an excel sheet, a piece of paper or your calendar, and mark off what times you have school. Also mark of what time you have sports, work, church, family visits or any other events that you need to make time for. You can now loosely allocate time to studying/homework (this doesn't have to be a finalised plan, but it is super helpful to know how much time you have outside of your school time to do work and study)

Find YOUR study method:

Figuring out which study method works for you is so so important, Different methods work better for different people, and finding your methods earlier rather than later is crucial to how well you will do. If you don't already have a prefered study method, do some research on it (here is a helpful website and youtube video dealing with different study techniques), and try to figure out which one you like the best. Plus now is a great time to form study groups!

Find your ideal study location:

whether it's your local library or a special room in your house, make sure you have a designated space that you can go to get your work done. This space may change for you over time, and that's okay. During high school, I prefer to study at home, but at uni, I prefer to study at the library.

Keeping Organised

Here is a helpful list of items/systems that can be used to keep you organised and on top of your assignments!

  • Having labelled binders for each of your subjects

  • Having a colour coordinated highlighting system (an idea here)

  • Keep a diary on you, and ACTUALLY use it! make notes of your homework, assignments, and school events

  • Download the syllabus and make note of when all the assignments are so you can start preparing for those super early

  • Make weekly to-do lists with everything that needs to be compleated that week

  • Or make to-do lists for productive study days with all the work you want to get through that session

  • Stick notes are your BEST friends

Websites and Apps to Keep Handy

just another small list of super helpful websites and apps to keep on hand!

  • Have your school email saved as a quick link, and download the app to your phone. This way you can be on top of any important emails

  • Have your schools canvas or blackboard or other online student site saved as a quick link

  • get the app Socratic! IT IS SO HELPFUL FOR ALL SUBJECTS!

  • Make sure to check your school subscriptions! loads of schools have premium accounts for things like Grammarly and various online libraries/databases

  • Bio ninja is great if you do biology! is has the topics that you will study up there to
