So recently we asked you guys to send in any questions you had regarding the hsc, trials, atars, subjects, ect, on our Instagram page. As some of those questions were pretty common, we thought it would be helpful to post all the questions and answers here!

Trial / HSC Questions

Q: How do I motivate myself? I feel I've worked so hard through the year and now idc

A: I completely get how you feel, all motivation goes out the window towards the end. But don't worry, it happened to a lot of people. The best thing you can do is take a break and just relax. I know that sounds like something you shouldn't do, but when you lose motivation, you become burnt out and exhausted. Keep pushing through, you don't have long to go! It's just being exhausted now that really makes you not want to do anything.

Q: This isn't really trials or HSC but how do you study for prelims?

A: Practice, practice, practice! Use this as an opportunity to master your exam technique and pacing and all that. Try to think of this as just a practice for HSC that doesn't for marks (it does count for marks, but imagine it doesn't lol)

Atar / Getting into Uni Questions

Q: I've lost all motivation for biology study. I need help!!!!

A: I know that feeling and it sucks! But, you need to push through!! Biology is such a content-heavy subject you cannot afford to lose time. If you don't want to do practice questions, do some multiple-choice, make your notes, go through your textbook or watch relevant and helpful youtube videos. You're almost at the end, don't give up!

Q: Do you recommend 10, 11, or 12 units?

A: I personally kept 12 units. It is a lot of work but it does mean you have some error space to fall back on. If you can completely bomb out on one subject, you know it won't count towards your ATAR. However, if you can't really manage the load or ar3e doing super s*** in one subject, there is no shame in dropping it to focus on your other 10/11 units.

Uni questions

Q: Is psychology and human sciences course you recommend??

A: 1000% yes! If you love science and psych, then yes, it's really good! You do a lot of biology though, but there are some fun things like neuroscience and all things about human sciences! For me, I'm probably going to focus on psych more in my postgraduate, but it's just so cool to have another degree as well in which you can do more things with

Q: Tips for university chemistry

A: Firstly, F*** Facebook groups. Honestly leave any subject-specific groups before exams. And secondly, just work through things, make detailed notes, make sure to do all the practice questions.

Q: What content do you cover with forensics at uts? What careers does this allow for you?

A: So there are four majors you can take: digital, biology, chemistry, and CSI. You can get a detective/ forensic lab. general lab work/expert witness with the last three.

(you can check here on the UTS page for the forensics degree. There is a section that details the job opportunities.)

Q: Do you like studying the forensics course at UTS? like would you recommend it?

A: I'm only starting my second semester of first year, so I'm still doing general science and foundation kinda subjects. So far though, I would definitely recommend it! It's a wonderful course! However, the market for jobs is so small, and most people end up doing lab work for a while or switching degree. So it is definitely for very committed people.

Subject-specific Questions

Q: How big was your workload for extension history?

A: It was a lot of work, especially at the beginning when I was just starting to subject, but it really requires time management skills, I used to spends 6+ hours each week doing research and writing for my project

Q: What are good ways to remember content for the essays in modern and legal

A: I can't speak for modern as we didn't do it, but for legal, some of your content may overlap in other topics, use those ones!! Make sure you write everything down, create a table as they are really helpful! A good way is to write the legalisation, media articles, case studies, important details and evidence etc.

Q: How would you recommend studying for English and maths advanced, and physics.

A: For English and maths, do all the practice papers and class exercises you can. With physics and maths, make sure you understand all the theory and have memorised any calculations or values you may need.

Q: Tips for ext 2 complex numbers

A: Practice practice practice! If you don't understand them perhaps try to find another maths teacher or some youtube video on them. Complex numbers aren't actually that hard of a topic once ou understands why and how everything works! Make sure to do all the exercises available to you.

Q: Tips for ext 2 integration

A: Again, just make sure you do loads of practice and make sure you know how to simplify things!

Q: Is year 11 chemistry tested in the HSC?

A: so any year 11 content can be tested and referred to in the HSC. FOR ALL SUBJECTS! It generally isn't as prominent as the year 12 content, but it can definitely pop up and be tested.

Q: How hard does physics get in year 12 compared to year 11

A: I had a really bad physics teacher so I ended up teaching myself most of the course. I would say that year 12 feel s a bit more like real physics stuff, but in terms of workload and "difficulty", it doesn't really change too much.

Thank you guys soooo much! Be sure to check out both our Instagram and TikTok pages x
