Early Entry... Maybe you've heard about it before, maybe you haven't. Not to worry! In this article, we will go over what it is, and where you can find out more information about it!

Early Entry or early admission into the university is where students apply earlier than usual to a university, in hopes of being offered a spot in their chosen course before ATAR's are released. Since universities don't have an ATAR to go off, they look at your previous year 11 and year 12 results, your in-school achievements and your co-curricular activities.

Most universities participate in an Early Entry scheme, just make sure you check their pages beforehand. Most universities open their early entry schemes around March/ April time, and close around August/September, earlier than UAC preferences. This way, they release their offers before you sit your exams.

Let's look at the pros and cons of early entry.

Pros of Early Entry:

- Get into your course before you sit HSC

- Don't have to worry about an ATAR as much

- Back up plan

Cons of Early Entry:

- Usually have to apply earlier in the year

- May not get into the university or course

Where to find early entry information?

UAC (Universities Admission Centre) is the best source of information on everything University related. On this page, you'll be able to find information on your application, on early entry, how to apply, your ATAR and much more.

Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS)

The Schools Recommendation Scheme is a major early entry pathway. This scheme is one way that institutions can make offers to Year 12 students based on your:

- year 11 and 12 studies

- your school's ratings and ability in areas of study

- your schools rating of aptitudes

- and other documents or applications if applicable

Each university or institution has its own set of criteria's for SRS eligibility such as you may have to attend school in a specific region or submit an EAS application, it all depends on the institution.

*SRS is not available for all courses*

Ensure you check out the UAC website for all the information, and don't be afraid to call the university or pop in, they are always more than happy to answer any questions!
